Why bother with a time clock
Two-person operations skip this and regret it in month three: payroll becomes memory-based, "how busy was Saturday really?" has no answer, and nobody can say which shift the register drawer went weird on. A shift is a small container of truth, who was on, for how long, and what got sold on their watch. Thirty seconds a day buys all of it.
Clocking in
Your team member opens Tavvi on the store device with their own sign-in, the one from their team invitation. The app greets them (Good morning) and offers Clock In to Start.
Tap Clock In. Done, the shift is open and the clock is running.
While clocked in, the banner shows how long they've been on. Ring sales as normal; everything lands inside the shift.
Clocking out
Tap Clock Out at the end of the shift. The app confirms with the honest fine print, "You will be logged out of the POS system. Your shift data will be saved.", so nobody's surprised: clock out closes the session, and the next person starts clean with their own sign-in.
What you see as the owner
- Shift History, View past shifts and performance. Every shift, Open or Closed, in one list.
- Shift Summary, per shift: Duration, Sales, Transactions. Hours for payroll, sales for coaching, all attributed to the person who worked them.
- Clock Status on the Team screen, who's Clocked In right now, at a glance.
Sales-per-shift is the quiet gold here: "Tuesdays with Maria run 30% higher" is a staffing decision hiding in plain sight.
If something's off
- "No business account found." That person hasn't been invited to your team yet, or hasn't accepted, the invite-your-team guide fixes it in five minutes.
- "Please select a store first." Multi-store account: pick which store they're working at in the business switcher, then clock in.
- Someone clocked in and walked off, shift still open. The shift stays Open until they clock out, have them sign back in and tap Clock Out, note the real end time for payroll, and re-preach the house rule.
